SUES Scholarship Application Criteria

Basic Eligibility

1. Aged from 18-25 (those who are aged above 16 but under 18 should submit Guardian’s Guarantee Statement).
2. In good health.
3. Senior high school diploma (or above).
4. Non-Chinese citizen complying with relevant regulations such as the "Notice of Ministry of Education on Regulating the Work Related to the Admission of International Students by Higher Education Institutions in China".
5. A minimum requirement of HSK 4 certificate (

scored over 180 points).

Scholarship Requirements

1. Meeting program application eligibility.
2. Meeting entry requirements of the university and major.
3. Providing satisfying academic and comprehensive performance.
4. An applicant who has received any other scholarships offered by the Chinese government or organizations is not entitled to apply for the above scholarships.
5. Applicants for the Shanghai Government Scholarship must provide proof of language proficiency (

passing HSK level 4 or above).

Note: If you want to book our translation service, please pay and book it at least 2 weeks before the application deadline for submission of all documents;

If you want to book our guardian service, you need to pay and book it 2 months before the application deadline, just in case your application fails because of failed to submit application documents in time.

Required Application Documents

1. Senior high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, and full transcripts

Note:

The documents must be in English or Chinese with official stamps of the high school or authorized institute. Notarized translated copies must be submitted if the document is not in Chinese or English.

If you apply before the completion of high school, an official letter issued by the institute indicating the time when you will receive the diploma is required. Copy of diploma and final version of the transcripts are still required once you receive them.

2. Photocopy of passport with expiry date no earlier than 2027/02/28

Note:

• If the passport has been extended, a passport extension page should be included.
• If you are not in your home country during the application, your current valid visa in that country is also required.

Proof of merits or testimonials, or other documents that you wish to be considered.

Applicants with experience in China should provide all visa, residence permits, proof of enrollment or study certificate, transcript, housing registration form, etc.

Applicants who are under the age of 18 at the start of the semester (as of September 1) must provide a notarized Guardian's Commitment Letter. The guardian should reside in China and can be a Chinese citizen or a foreigner holding a legal residence permit. If the guardian is a Chinese citizen, the information pages of his/her ID card and hukou must be provided. If s/he is a foreigner, passport and residence permit must be provided. The validity period of the residence permit must cover the guardianship period before the applicant turns 18.

Note:

The applicant should hold responsible for authenticity of all materials provided. If dishonesty is discovered with any applicant, SUES reserves the right to handle in accordance with relevant regulations (including but not limited to revocation of student status, academic qualification or degree, etc.). All consequences arising therefrom shall be borne by the applicant.

I: Further Explanation of Documents You Need to Provide:

1. Passport
   • A clear, full-color scan of your passport information page, showing your name, passport number, expiration date, and photo.
   • Some universities may also require blank visa pages, so you are advised to upload a few blank pages as well.
2. Photo
   • A recent passport-sized ID photo (2 x 2 inches) with a plain white background.
   • Full face visible, no headwear (except for religious reasons).
   • Taken within the last 6 months.
3. Highest Degree Graduation Certificate
   • A formal graduation certificate of your highest completed education level (e.g., Senior High School, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree).
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized by an authorized translation agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
4. Highest Degree Academic Transcripts
   • Formal academic transcripts of your highest completed education level (e.g., Senior High School, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree), covering ALL academic years, NOT just the final year.
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized by an authorized translation agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
5. Chinese Language Proficiency Certificate For Chinese Medium Programs
   • For Bachelor’s degree programs taught in Chinese, HSK Level 4 or above with a minimum score of 180 is usually required.
   • For Master’s degree programs, HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above is generally required. A few universities may require HSK Level 6.
   • Higher scores and levels are preferred.
6. English Language Proficiency Certificate For English Medium Programs
   • IELTS (6.0 or above) or TOEFL iBT (90 or above) is generally preferred.
   • If you are unable to provide these test results, you may submit alternative proof, such as a Duolingo English Test score or an official English proficiency certificate issued by your previous school/university, stating that the medium of instruction was English.
   • Higher scores are preferred.
7. Non-criminal Record Certificate
   • Please note that this document is generally valid for only 6 months(Few may require 3 months). For instance, if you submit your application in March, your non-criminal record must have been issued no earlier than September of the previous year.
   • Obtain this certificate from the local police station of your current residence, confirming that you have had no criminal record during the 6 months prior to the date of issuance.
   • If you are currently in China, the certificate must be issued by the local Chinese police.
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated and notarized by an authorized agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
8. Physical Examination Form
   • Download the form template, print it, and bring it to a hospital for the required medical tests. The hospital will complete the form with your results.
   • The medical examination must cover all items listed on the form.
   • Ensure your photo is attached and the form is stamped and signed by the hospital after the examination.
   • The medical results are valid for 6 months only, and few universities will require the report you did within the past 3 months.
   • Forms that are incomplete, lack a final physician’s suggestion, missing the attending physician’s signature, official hospital stamp, or applicant’s sealed photo or contain abnormal examination results will be considered invalid.
   • The document must be in English or Chinese.

II: If you ever studied in China, you MUST provide these extra documents:

1. A Non-objection Transfer Certificate(无异议转学证明).

   Issued by your previous Chinese university. This document should include your personal information, academic performance (including attendance), estimated graduation date, and your current university’s approval of your transfer application. It must also contain the university’s contact information (email and phone), issue date, and official stamp.

2. Scanned copies of all passport pages with entry and exit stamps for China.
3. Scanned copies of all visa pages (X1, X2, T, or others) and residence permit pages (if applicable).
4. A Recommendation Letter From Previous Chinese University.

Some universities may also request a recommendation letter from your previous university or other supporting documents.

III: If you are under 18 years old, you MUST provide these extra documents:

1. Notarized Guardian's Letter of Commitment
   • Students under 18 must find a Chinese guardian who resides in the same city as the university you are applying to, and complete the notarization process as guided in our tutorial video.
   • Upload a scanned copy of the notarized Guardian’s Letter of Commitment. This document must be certified in your home country and notarized in China.
   • Please note that a Notarization of Declaration (声明公证) issued in China is eventually required.
   • A scanned copy is acceptable at the initial stage. If the university later requires the original document or additional materials, we will inform you.
