International Chinese Language Education

• Applicants should be holders of a bachelor's degree, and no more than 35 years old as of September 1st, 2022 b. Applicants must be of foreign nationality and in good physical condition.
• Applicants should behave well both on and out of campus and have no records of violating laws and regulations of China and host universities.
• Applicants should have corresponding Chinese language proficiency and submit proof documents like an HSK certificate or other papers. This term can be eased for programs taught in English.
• Applicants should have outstanding academic performance.
• Applicants who have won other Chinese government scholarships are not eligible.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health;

For undergraduate programs, applicants should be graduated from high school; For Master programs, applicants must have a bachelor degree; For PhD programs, applicants must have a master degree; For Chinese language programs, applicants must have a high school certificate or above, and must apply for a Chinese language program longer than one semester;

Applicants should behave well both on and out of campus, and have no records of violating laws and regulations of China and host university;

Applicants who are enrolled students should be diligent in learning and have an average grade of 70 or above in their final examinations (re-sit exams are not included) and no absence in exams. Newly enrolled applicants should also have an average grade of 70 or above and provide the academic transcript of the last highest education as proof. Applicants with an outstanding performance in other areas will also be considered.

Enrolled students failed to pay for all their tuition and accommodation fees for the year or years before applying or have an attendance rate lower than 80% will be disqualified of that year’s scholarship.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and good in health.

For master scholarship program: Applicants must be holders of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree, two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors, and under the age of 35 as of September 1st, 2021;

For PhD scholarship program: Applicants must be holders of a master's degree or an equivalent degree, two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors, and under the age of 40 as of September 1st, 2021.

Language proficiency requirements:

• Applicants for Chinese-taught programs should have an HSK test score of level 4 or above;
• There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for the applicants for English-taught programs, but applicants (except for English native speakers) must have TOEFL test score 90 or IELTS test score 6.5 (or above) or have other related certificate of English language proficiency.

Applicants must have good academic performance

Applicant must not be beneficiaries of any other scholarships.

Note: If you want to book our translation service, please pay and book it at least 2 weeks before the application deadline for submission of all documents;

If you want to book our guardian service, you need to pay and book it 2 months before the application deadline, just in case your application fails because of failed to submit application documents in time.

1. Copy of Passport.
2. Notarized highest education certificate and academic transcripts（this year’ s graduates provide proof of pre-graduation). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translated English or Chinese version. Applicants must present the original copy of the aforementioned documents when registering at ZJSU.
3. Language Certificate: applicants applying for English-taught programs, except for native English speakers, must provide proof of English proficiency such as TOEFL/IELTS/DUOLINGUO (TOEFL ITP scores are not accepted) or proof of previous English-taught programs. Applicants applying for Chinese-taught programs must provide a certificate of HSK level 4 or above or proof of previous Chinese-taught programs.
4. Resume.
5. 2 Letters of Recommendation (by full or associate professor, in Chinese or English with the professional title, signature and contact information. Only master’s and doctoral program applicants shall submit).
6. Study Plan or Personal Statement in Chinese or English.
7. Form for Provisional Acceptance of International Student by ZJSU Supervisor (In principle, master’s and doctoral program applicants shall provide this form to the Supervisor to fill in and submit. See the download link at the end of the article for attachment II)
8. Published Academic Papers or Research Achievements (if available；Only for master's and doctoral program applicants).
9. 2-inch photo (Photo format: color 2-inch bareheaded photo, white background without border, head takes up 2/3 of the photo size, photo size is not less than 320*240 pixels, aspect ratio is 4:3, size is 100-500kb, JPG format).
10. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form filled in Chinese or English (see the download link at the end of the article for attachment III). Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only six months (your results should be valid when you submit your application).
11. Police Certificate.
12. Applicant under the age of 16 (till September 1st, 2026) should submit Letter of Authorization and Guardian’s Letter of Guarantee (see the download link at the end of the article for attachment IV), guardian must be adult Chinese person.
13. Those who were Chinese citizens and later naturalized as foreign citizens shall submit: (1) Certificate of cancellation of Chinese nationality or registered residence; (2) Certificate of naturalization as a foreign nationality; (3) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2022 to April 30, 2026.
14. Applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth in a foreign country, if both or one of their parents is a Chinese citizen shall provide: (1) Certificate of foreign nationality acquired at birth; (2) Certificate of permanent residence of the applicants’ parents (Chinese citizens) in foreign countries before applicants’ birth; (3) Entry and exit records from April 30, 2022 to April 30, 2026.
15. Certificate of application fee: CNY 400 remittance certificate (the application fee will not be refunded whether accepted or not). Reminder: Please make sure to accurately indicate the payment reference number, full name, passport number, and major of the applying student when remitting the payment.

I: Further Explanation of Documents You Need to Provide:

(Refer more standard for documents)

1. Passport
   • A clear, full-color scan of your passport information page, showing your name, passport number, expiration date, and photo.
   • Some universities may also require blank visa pages, so you are advised to upload a few blank pages as well.
2. Photo
   • A recent passport-sized ID photo (2 x 2 inches) with a plain white background.
   • Full face visible, no headwear (except for religious reasons).
   • Taken within the last 6 months.
3. Highest Degree Graduation Certificate
   • A formal graduation certificate of your highest completed education level (e.g., Senior High School, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree).
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized by an authorized translation agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
4. Highest Degree Academic Transcripts
   • Formal academic transcripts of your highest completed education level (e.g., Senior High School, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree), covering ALL academic years, NOT just the final year.
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized by an authorized translation agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
5. Chinese Language Proficiency Certificate For Chinese Medium Programs
   • For Bachelor’s degree programs taught in Chinese, HSK Level 4 or above with a minimum score of 180 is usually required.
   • For Master’s degree programs, HSK Level 5 with a score of 180 or above is generally required. A few universities may require HSK Level 6.
   • Higher scores and levels are preferred.
6. English Language Proficiency Certificate For English Medium Programs
   • IELTS (6.0 or above) or TOEFL iBT (90 or above) is generally preferred.
   • If you are unable to provide these test results, you may submit alternative proof, such as a Duolingo English Test score or an official English proficiency certificate issued by your previous school/university, stating that the medium of instruction was English.
   • Higher scores are preferred.
7. Non-criminal Record Certificate
   • Please note that this document is generally valid for only 6 months(Few may require 3 months). For instance, if you submit your application in March, your non-criminal record must have been issued no earlier than September of the previous year.
   • Obtain this certificate from the local police station of your current residence, confirming that you have had no criminal record during the 6 months prior to the date of issuance.
   • If you are currently in China, the certificate must be issued by the local Chinese police.
   • If the document is not in Chinese or English, it must be translated and notarized by an authorized agency or relevant authority. Self-translations are not accepted.
8. Physical Examination Form
   • Download the form template, print it, and bring it to a hospital for the required medical tests. The hospital will complete the form with your results.
   • The medical examination must cover all items listed on the form.
   • Ensure your photo is attached and the form is stamped and signed by the hospital after the examination.
   • The medical results are valid for 6 months only, and few universities will require the report you did within the past 3 months.
   • Forms that are incomplete, lack a final physician’s suggestion, missing the attending physician’s signature, official hospital stamp, or applicant’s sealed photo or contain abnormal examination results will be considered invalid.
   • The document must be in English or Chinese.

II: If you ever studied in China, you MUST provide these extra documents:

1. A Non-objection Transfer Certificate(无异议转学证明).

   Issued by your previous Chinese university. This document should include your personal information, academic performance (including attendance), estimated graduation date, and your current university’s approval of your transfer application. It must also contain the university’s contact information (email and phone), issue date, and official stamp.

2. Scanned copies of all passport pages with entry and exit stamps for China.
3. Scanned copies of all visa pages (X1, X2, T, or others) and residence permit pages (if applicable).
4. A Recommendation Letter From Previous Chinese University.

Some universities may also request a recommendation letter from your previous university or other supporting documents.

III: If you are under 18 years old, you MUST provide these extra documents:

1. Notarized Guardian's Letter of Commitment
   • Students under 18 must find a Chinese guardian who resides in the same city as the university you are applying to, and complete the notarization process as guided in our tutorial video.
   • Upload a scanned copy of the notarized Guardian’s Letter of Commitment. This document must be certified in your home country and notarized in China.
   • Please note that a Notarization of Declaration (声明公证) issued in China is eventually required.
   • A scanned copy is acceptable at the initial stage. If the university later requires the original document or additional materials, we will inform you.
